About

The Workshop

The Workshop is where ideas are transformed into capability and problems are solved.

It’s our engineering hub - where autonomous systems are conceived, built, tested, and refined to address real operational challenges.

Spanning the entire UAS ecosystem, our work covers software, platform design, RF, propulsion, and beyond - all tightly integrated from concept to prototype.

Our environment is transparent and experimentation-driven. We encourage rapid iteration, early learning, and constructive challenge, creating space for bold thinking and technical excellence.

By empowering exceptional engineers to explore, test, and improve without friction, The Workshop consistently delivers smarter, more resilient systems.

What you’ll do

  • Role

You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering the software that supports Dracoe’s UAS platforms.

You will develop, maintain and deploy software to support Dracoe’s UAS capabilities. You will shape mission planning software and system-level behaviours to meet demanding operational and customer requirements.

Working closely with hardware, flight test, and manufacturing teams, you will ensure Dracoe software is robust, scalable, and deployable across production aircraft.

You will help create outstanding software that keeps Dracoe at the forefront of both the consumer and defence drone markets, delivering reliable, intelligent UAS at scale.

You’ll play a key role in enabling autonomous systems that support industry and western democracies.

  • Responsibilities
    • Design custom UAS platforms tailored to mission-specific requirements, selecting and integrating airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, and structural components
    • Configure and swap peripheral systems including sensors, payloads, communication modules, and mission equipment to optimize platform capabilities for diverse operational scenarios
    • Perform hands-on fabrication, assembly, and modification of UAV systems, including mechanical integration, electrical harnessing, and component mounting
    • Conduct failure analysis and field diagnostics on deployed platforms, performing repairs, retrofits, and upgrades to maintain operational readiness
    • Architect complex electrical and mechanical systems, including power management networks, thermal solutions, and ruggedized enclosures for harsh environments
    • Create detailed technical documentation such as CAD models, bills of materials, build instructions, and maintenance manuals
    • Source and evaluate components, materials, and subsystems from vendors, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for production scalability

Who you are

Experience

  • 3+ years experience designing, building, or integrating hardware systems for UAVs, robotics, or aerospace applications, with hands-on involvement in platform development from prototype to deployment
  • Proficiency with CAD software for mechanical design, and experience with electrical design tools for circuit schematics and PCB layout
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems including power electronics, battery management, motor controllers, and communication protocols (CAN, UART, I2C, etc.)
  • Experience conducting test campaigns including environmental testing, vibration analysis, endurance testing, and flight trials with data collection and analysis
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers to identify and resolve hardware failures
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and airworthiness considerations for UAS platforms, including weight limitations, safety factors, and certification requirements
  • Experience working cross-functionally with software, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure hardware designs meet performance, producibility, and maintainability requirements

Skills

  • Proficiency with CAD software and electrical design tools
  • Hands-on fabrication skills: composite layup, CNC machining, 3D printing, soldering, and assembly
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, power electronics, and communication protocols (CAN, UART, I2C, SPI)
  • Experience with diagnostic tools: oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers
  • Knowledge of materials selection, structural analysis, and thermal management
  • Familiarity with UAS regulations and airworthiness standards

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in UAS, aerospace, defence, automotive, or high-reliability hardware development

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in STEM or equivalent

Equivalent practical experience designing and building complex hardware systems will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience with fabrication techniques including composite layup, CNC machining, 3D printing, and sheet metal work, along with practical assembly and integration skills

What you’ll get

Compensation

$96-126,000

Benefits

We offer comprehensive health insurance, generous paid time off, access to a company pension scheme and equity in a mission-driven company.

Stipends

You'll receive an annual stipend for gym reimbursements for up to $1000 per year and approved role-related learning credits for up to $1000 per year.
